Our team of specialist and highly experienced lawyers act for individuals, organisations, corporates and regulators, providing advice on regulatory compliance, investigations, adjudication, enforcement and prosecutions. We help clients respond to regulatory investigations and interventions when the continued operation or reputation of the individual or the business is at stake.

Purpose of job

We are looking for an outstanding lawyer with sector-specific expertise in legal services regulation to join our Regulatory team. The successful candidate will become an important part of an internationally renowned and growing legal services regulatory practice, in a role that focuses on advising law firms and individuals in the legal sector.

To work as part of a team, advising law firm and individual clients on all legal services matters, with a focus on those who are the subject of a regulatory investigation by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) or who are subject to a disciplinary process before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT). Examples of particular areas of fee earning work include:

Responsibilities

Specific duties:

  • Advising law firms and legal professionals on their regulatory obligations in respect of SRA investigations
  • Conducting internal investigations and reviews on behalf of law firms 
  • Acting in relation to proceedings before the SDT

General duties:

  • Taking new client enquiries and meeting with clients and advising them in relation to their regulatory obligations and other queries
  • Reviewing papers and identifying the issues and appropriate strategy
  • Instructing Counsel and experts
  • Liaising and negotiating with regulators, in particular the SRA
  • Drafting formal representations and statements of evidence
  • Preparing matters for SDT hearings and SRA disciplinary processes including working with Counsel
  • Assisting with pre-billing processes
  • Engaging in BD & marketing activities; supporting senior members of the team to take forward the Legal Services Regulatory Business Plan and other key initiatives, including those with an innovation angle
  • Assisting in preparing and delivering thought leadership and training events for clients
  • Attending networking events, drafting articles for placing externally and posting on social media on behalf of the team, with a specific focus on legal services regulation
  • Delegation of appropriate duties to junior team members with clear instruction, guidance and feedback
  • Other related duties as and when required.
