We are an internationally recognised private client team working with entrepreneurs, business owners and investors. We also work with many City professionals, particularly those who work in finance, property development and law. Almost all our clients have international assets and family spread throughout the world and we help them to structure their affairs in the way that they want. |
We are seeking an excellent lawyer to bolster our growing Private Client team. You will work closely with the six partners of this busy department, as well as the Legal Directors, Senior Associates & Associates in the provision of advice to the firm’s clients. We practise all areas of Private Client law, representing clients in the UK and abroad.
The Private Client team has two core areas: traditional Private Client work covering Wills, Probate, Trusts and Tax planning; and Court of Protection work. The main focus of this job will be in the area covering traditional Private Client work but with particular focus on advising on trust and succession issues for International clients, advising offshore trustees and beneficiaries, providing tax advice to individuals arriving or leaving the UK. |
To work, as part of a team, advising the firm’s clients on Private Client law matters to include but not limited to:
- Succession planning for both UK residents and non-residents and UK domiciled and non-domiciled individuals
- Advising on the new FIG rules and the Long-term resident rules
- Advising on offshore trusts and understanding the taxation impacts of assets held in such vehicles.
- Creation of Worldwide and UK Wills and Letters of Wishes; many complex in nature
- To have a good knowledge of UK Inheritance tax and other UK taxes affecting individuals coming to the UK or investing in the UK
- Advising, setting up and administering trusts. Understanding the interaction between UK taxes and succession law and offshore trusts
- Advising on use of non-trust assets protective vehicles such as Family Investment Companies
- Occasional probate work and/or supervising probate work
- Delegating work as appropriate to junior members of the team and providing clear instruction, guidance and feedback to assist with their development
- Contributing to the department’s and firm’s business development efforts for the Private Client department as well as KN’s Private Wealth Group
- Identifying and developing new potential sources of referral. Maintaining and developing links with existing referrers of work and raising your own, the department’s and the firm’s profile
- Delivering know-how sessions both internally and externally to promote knowledge and best practice and to promote the firm’s capabilities
- Other such appropriate duties as and when required.
